Fledglings News - 7th March 2025

345 has been full of excitement this week as we have extended our World Book Day celebrations from one day to the full week! The Fledglings brought in their favourite stories to share with their peers and rather than focusing on one book as our Topic for this week we have enjoyed looking at a range of books. We used these to focus o story development and retelling well known and traditional tales. Many of our Free Play resources have focused on the element of comprehension and using vocabulary which has been introduced through the great variety of stories we have shared.

Elsewhere in the classroom the children built houses for ‘The Three Little Pigs’, grew beans for Jack, made gingerbread men with playdough, sailed pirate ships across the seas, rescued princesses and defeated dragons as well as creating their own stories with their friends. For our Literacy Focus Time we used story dice to provide inspiration for characters, locations and modes of transport, feeding off each other’s ideas. During Maths we looked at shape properties and positional language as we compared 2D shapes to their 3D counterparts and created a castle with them.

The highlight of the week was seeing everyone dressed up for World Book Day. We had some wonderfully unique costumes and the children loved sharing their books and guessing which character their friends and teachers had dressed up as.
